TOWN OF SHARON, Wis. — A 54-year-old woman died early Sunday in a single-vehicle crash in the Portage County town of Sharon, according to the Portage County Sheriff’s Department.

According to a news release from Sheriff Mike Lukas, the crash was called in at 1:44 a.m. Sunday. A preliminary investigation suggests a vehicle was traveling north on CTH J near Wilderness Drive when the driver crossed the center line, entered the west ditch and struck a driveway before coming to rest on the passenger side.

A passenger in the vehicle, a 54-year-old woman from Amherst Junction, was pronounced dead at the scene, police said.

The driver, a 32-year-old Rosholt man, and a second passenger, a 32-year-old Rosholt woman, were transported by ambulance to area hospitals with injuries that appear non-life threatening, police said.

Investigators shut down a portion of CTH J for about three hours following the crash, which remains under investigation.

Names are being withheld pending notification of relatives.
