Officers received a 911 call at 12:11 p.m. Sunday, July 28 requesting an ambulance in the city of Schofield. When they arrived, they discovered a mother holding a young child in her arms. Police say the 2-year-old child was left in the vehicle from 2 a.m. until about noon.

The child was initially transported to Ascension Saint Clare’s Hospital in Weston for treatment, but was later flown to Marshfield Medical Center. The child was treated for extreme exhaustion, authorities said.

There’s no official update on the child’s condition.

Official charges have not been filed, but Wakeen is due in court Friday for an initial appearance.

Police are continuing their investigation into the matter, according to a news release issued Wednesday.
