Despite a quick start from the Mallards, the Wisconsin Woodchucks wound up on top Wednesday, winning by a score of 8-5.

EJ Ranel picked up where he left off the night before, hitting a double on the first pitch of the game. Ben Anderson hit one on the next pitch, scoring Ranel. Justice Bigbie added a single, and a ground ball hit by JT Mabry that the Woodchucks could not finish off a double-play on allowed two more runs to score. Jordan Stephens then doubled to score Mabry and make the score 4-0 after an inning.

The Woodchucks answered in the top of the third inning. Kaeber Rog led it off with a walk, and was followed up by an Alejandro Gonzalez single. TJ Reeves then singled to bring in Rog, and a wild pitch allowed Gonzalez to get to 3rd base for Adam Frank. Frank hit a fly ball to center field that was deep enough to score Gonzalez, and the Chucks cut the Mallards lead to 4-2.

The Mallards answered right back. Logan Michaels started off the bottom of the 3rd with a walk, and later was scored on a single by Jordan Stephens. Fernando Colon made a nice play to get a double play to end the inning with the score at 5-2.

The Chucks kept chipping away. Kaeber Rog and Alejandro Gonzalez led off the 5th inning with singles, and TJ Reeves picked up his second RBI single, driving in Rog. Brandon Seltzer then grounded out, but was able to score Gonzalez on the play. This made the score 5-4 going forward.

The Chucks kept it rolling into the 6th. Cameron Swanger led it off with a single, and a couple batters later, Lawrence Cicileo hit his third home run of the year. It was a two-run shot that gave the Woodchucks their first lead of the ballgame at 6-5. Kaeber Rog then drew a walk, and TJ Reeves added his third hit of the day to put Rog on third base. Reeves stole second, and the throw from the Mallards catcher Logan Michaels bounced off of Reeves’ leg and allowed Rog to score his third run of the game. The score was 7-5 Woodchucks.

Lawrence Cicileo started off the 8th inning with a bang. He hit a solo home run, his second of the game, to give the Woochucks an 8-5 lead.

Joey Hennessey closed it out with a six-out save, and helped get the Woodchucks the victory by a score of 8-5.
