Eleanore Garwood

Eleanore M. Garwood, 94, of Rothschild died on Wednesday, July 31, 2019, under the care of Aspirus Hospice House with her family by her side.

Eleanore was born on March 10, 1925, in Minneapolis to the late David and Barbara Haag. She married Paul Garwood Sr. on Aug. 12, 1945, in Chicago. He preceded her in death on May 4, 2010.

Paul spent 20 years in the U.S. Navy, so Eleanore worked hard at home as a homemaker and Navy wife while he was away. After Paul’s retirement, they enjoyed spending many winters in Florida.  She loved crossword puzzles and going to the casino, but more than anything, Eleanore loved spending time with her grandchildren and great grandchildren. Eleanore and Paul were members of St. Mark’s Parish in Rothschild since 1969.

Survivors include her children Paul Ned Garwood, Patricia Harmant, Peggy (Jim) Trzebiatowski, and Philip (Karen) Garwood; grandchildren Samantha Garwood, Michael Garwood, Christopher (Bethany) Garwood, Corrine (Todd) Wolff, Colleen (Ray) Gardner, Jennifer (Dustin) Sawvell, Matthew (Amber Laffin) Trzebiatowski, and Isabel Garwood; great grandchildren Elizabeth, Jacob, Megan, Kaylee, Abigail, Courtney, Faith, and Alexander; brothers Charles Haag and David Haag; and many nieces, nephews, relatives and friends.

She is preceded in death by her siblings Pauline, Catherine, Peter, Emily and Edward; son-in-law Robert Harmant; and great granddaughter Paige Wolff.

A private family mass will be held.

Linda Heisler

Linda Marline Heisler, 69, passed away at her home on Monday, July 29, 2019, with her loving family by her side.

She was born on Nov. 15, 1949, to the late Felix and Florence (Shidell) Thomas in Wausau. She graduated from Wausau East High School in 1968. She worked as a claim advisor for American Family Insurance until her retirement in 2014.

She was an avid bird watcher and adored her grandpuppies, Luigi and Lily, so much that she adopted her own puppy, Bentley. Linda cherished time spent with her granddaughters, often spending hours with them on shopping trips.

She is survived by her daughter, Nicole (Scott) Krause of Kronenweter; son, William (Tracey) Heisler of Glendale, Arizona; grandchildren, Allie Frenkel, Kayla Smith, and Annika and Isabella Heisler; and siblings Phyllis Knoblock and Roger (Jodine) Thomas. She was preceded in death by her parents and siblings, Sharon, Ronald, Arletta, Beverly, and Jacqueline.

A Memorial Service will be held at 1 p.m. on Saturday, Aug. 10, 2019, at Brainard Funeral Home – Everest Chapel, 5712 Memorial Court, Weston, WI 54476. Visitation will be held from 11 a.m. until the time of service at the funeral home.

Marvin McElhaney

Marvin L. McElhaney, 85, of Wausau passed away on Wednesday, July 31, 2019, at Aspirus Wausau Hospital, with his loving family by his side. He was born on Aug. 6, 1933, in Antigo, son of the late Clarence and Helen (Hurning) McElhaney. Marvin served stateside in the U.S. Navy during the Korean War as an airplane mechanic. On Dec. 3, 1960, he married Virginia June Graap at St. Stephen’s United Church of Christ in Merrill.

Marvin worked as a welder for Murray Machinery and later Wausau Hydraulics until his retirement in 1996. In his free time, Marvin enjoyed spending time hunting, fishing, gardening and traveling with Virginia.

He is survived by his wife of 58 years, Virginia; children, Rebecca McElhaney and Jon (Jill) McElhaney; grandchildren, Connor, Ryan, and Leah McElhaney and Meghan and Nathaniel Oselka; brothers, Guy (Joanne) McElhaney, Keith (Ruth) McElhaney, and Vern (Kathy) McElhaney; sister-in-law’s, Eunice Schubert, Kathy Graap and Barbara Golisch; brother-in-law, Ken (Carolyn) Graap; as well as several nieces and nephews.

Marvin was preceded in death by his parents; sister Jean; brother-in-law’s, Ken Schubert, Kermit Golisch, Charles Graap. Jr, Vernon Heuser and Dennis Graap; and his sister-in-law Audrey Heuser.

Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. on Monday, Aug. 5, 2019, at Our Savior’s Evangelical Lutheran Church, 703 Flieth St., Wausau. Pastor Robert Edwards will officiate. Visitation will take place at Helke Funeral Home, 302 Spruce St., on Sunday, Aug. 4, 2019, from 4 p.m. to 6 p.m. and again, on Monday from 10 a.m. until the time of service at the church. Burial will follow at Restlawn Memorial Park, town of Texas.

Wallace Grulkowski

Wallace T. Grulkowski, 76, of Ringle died Monday, July 29, 2019.

Wally was born on July 2, 1943, in Portage County, the son of the late Ted and Josephine (Omernick) Grulkowski. On July 11, 1964, he married the late Joyce (Sieg) Grulkowski in Rothschild. Wally was employed by Green Bay Packaging Inc., in Wausau until his retirement.

Wally’s enjoyment of the outdoors showed in his love for hunting, fishing and spending time up north at the cabin. Wally also enjoyed working in his wood shop building furniture and toys for friends and family. Wally liked nothing better than a visit with family and friends. The loss of his sociable spirit, interesting stories and infectious personality will be missed by all those who knew and loved him.

Wally is survived by two sons, Kip (Monika) Grulkowski, Elderon, and Brian (Kristy) Grulkowski, Hatley; one daughter, Michelle (Michael) Hudson, Ohio; and five grandchildren, Cody Grulkowski, Aleksandra Grulkowski, Rene Hudson, Alaina Hudson and Erin Hudson. He is further survived by one brother, Jerry Grulkoski; and four sisters, Violet Gorski, Mary Ann Landowski, Shirley Gorski and Carol Kapellusch. Wally was preceded in death by his wife, Joyce Grulkowski; and parents, Ted and Josephine Grulkowski.

Per Wally’s wishes, a private family memorial will be held to celebrate his life.

Creta Burhans

Creta V. Burhans, 97, of Stevens Point, formerly of Brule, Wisconsin, was called home by her Lord and Savior Jesus Christ on July 27, 2019, at WillowBrook Assisted Living, Stevens Point.

She was born Dec. 22, 1921, to Clyde and Edna Schermerhorn in Cloverland Township, Brule, Wisconsin.

She married Leland Burhans on Nov. 1, 1941.

Creta worked as an LPN. She enjoyed singing, dancing and traveling, going to Vienna, Austria, with the Northwest Wisconsin Community Choir, mission trips to New York City and Mexico, and across the U.S. with her children to visit family.

She is survived by her children: Mrs. William (Virginia) Wiemer, Edward (Terry) Burhans, Mrs. Benny (Alice) Johnson; 10 grandchildren, 20 great-grandchildren; 10 great-great-grandchildren; and many nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her husband, parents and siblings.
