STEVENS POINT, Wis. — A 29-year-old Stevens Point man who allegedly threatened to shoot officers is being detained after police discovered a weapon, ammunition and a bullet proof vest in his possession.

The discovery was made following a traffic stop shortly before.6 p.m. Saturday in Portage County. The weapon recovered was an assault-style rifle, police said.

The suspect, whose name was not immediately released, is in the Portage County Jail on a probation hold and faces possible charges of possessing a firearm as a felon.
