GRAND RAPIDS, Wis. — A 43-year-old woman died Sunday evening after being struck by a vehicle driven by suspected drunk driver, police said.

The crash happened at about 8:15 p.m. on Whitrock Avenue in Grand Rapids. The victim has been identified as Melissa Piesik, 43, of Grand Rapids. Piesik, a Marshfield native, was a teacher at Bannach Elementary School in Stevens Point, according to her obituary.

Police say Piesik was struck by a pickup driven by 25-year-old Zachary Koosmann, who has two prior drunken driving convictions.

A preliminary breath test showed Koosmann was driving with a blood alcohol concentration of 0.219 percent, according to police. His two prior OWI arrests were in 2016. He is being held in the Wood County Jail on a $30,000 cash bond. Formal charges against Koosmann has not yet been filed.

A hearing is set for Sept. 9.
