A 26-year-old Colby man accused of sending multiple photos and at least one video of his penis to a 17-year-old Spencer girl is a former custodian at Colby High School, Wausau Pilot and Review confirmed Friday.

An initial appearance is set for Aug. 8 for David A. Paul, who is charged with causing a child to view a sex act. The felony charge carries a maximum penalty of six years in prison $10,000 in fines.

An investigation, prompted by a phone call from the girl’s mother, began May 21. According to the police report, Paul began chatting with the girl in February through Facebook messenger and sent multiple photos of his penis along with sexually explicit messages over a two-month span despite knowing the girl was underage. Police say Paul tried to arrange a meetup for sex several times and sent the girl a video of himself ejaculating.

Paul’s Facebook profile identifies him as a Colby High School custodian and volunteer firefighter.

Colby School Superintendent Steve Kolden tells Wausau Pilot and Review that school administrators were made aware of the incident when police first interviewed Paul on May 23. Kolden said he met with police and immediately suspended Paul, collecting his keys and school identification on May 23.

“When the police report was completed, school officials reviewed the report and Mr. Paul was terminated on June 17th,” Kolden said.

Paul is not in custody but is being summoned for his initial appearance The charges were filed Aug. 8 in Marathon County Circuit Court.
