TOWN OF ROME, WIs. — A 42-year-old man is dead and a 12-year-old boy is hospitalized after a UTV crash Sunday in Adams County.

Police say Robert Garry Jr. of Germantown, died when the UTV he was driving drifted off the road and struck a mailbox before overturning. The crash happened at about 4:30 p.m. in the 100 block of 14th Avenue. Garry, who was wearing a seat belt, was found unresponsive inside the overturned vehicle and was pronounced dead at the scene.

His 12-year-old passenger was transported by ambulance to a local hospital.

It is unclear what led to the crash, but the boy told police the driver had been drifting off and on the road immediately prior to the crash and seemed “incoherent,” according to police.

The crash is being investigated by the Rome Police Department and the Wisconsin Department of Natural Resources. The DNR spearheads all ATV and UTV crash investigations in Wisconsin.
