Multiple crews responded midday Wednesday to a fire that broke out at an apartment complex in Weston in a blaze that is being blamed on a possible electrical issue.

The blaze, at 5910 Camp Phillips Road, which is near Schofield Avenue, appears to have started on the second level of the building, officials said. Crews from SAFER, Riverside and Mosinee Fire Departments were called to the scene.

Witnesses tell Wausau Pilot and Review that flames and heavy smoke were pouring from the building at about 12:10 p.m. Several residents and pets were safely evacuated from the building, which sustained heavy damage to the upper floor.

A portion of Camp Phillips Road was blocked off for about three hours while firefighters brought the blaze under control.

No one was injured.
