WAUSAU – A newly formed outdoor recreation nonprofit has released its 2019 and 2020 events schedule. The Wausau region’s waterways and trails will be showcased in each Ironbull event.

The inaugural race, the Ironbull ultra trail 50k/15k, will be held on Oct. 5 during peak fall colors starting at Rib Mountain State Park. Runners will complete the point-to-point course in downtown Wausau on the 400 Block in conjunction with Harvest Fest.

A second race in 2019 is the Red Granite Grinder bike race on Oct. 19 with three distances for all ability levels. The two longer courses are gravel bike races and the 30-mile ride is a family friendly event to be held mostly on pavement, featuring several area bike paths. Each race starts and ends on the 400 Block in downtown Wausau.

Six events are planned for 2020.

Revenues from the events will be distributed to partner organizations, including the Woodson YMCA, Wausau & Marathon County Parks & Recreation Foundation and the University of Wisconsin – Stevens Point, among others.

All races, except the winter triathlon, will consist of at least two racecourses – an extreme race and a second recreational race suitable for a wide range of abilities.

“Each event is designed to draw in the community,” said Ironbull executive director Andrea Larson in a news release. “We plan to offer something for everyone of every age and ability level to enjoy at Ironbull events, whether they are racing, spectating or volunteering.”

Events are free to spectators.
