A 48-year-old Stetsonville man is facing his seventh charge of operating while intoxicated, after being pulled over for allegedly driving his motorcycle at speeds topping 90 mph in a 55 mph zone.
Christopher A. Martin appeared Monday, Aug. 19, on the felony charge. He was ordered held on a $15,000 cash bond.
According to the police report, an officer on routine patrol observed Martin at about 10:28 p.m. in the village of Spencer driving northbound on North Pacific Street at East Elm Street and attempted a stop after the motorcycle registration returned with a revoked driving status. Instead of pulling over the motorcycle continued northbound on Hwy. 13 and increased speed, weaving within its lane and crossing the center line.
The officer clocked the motorcycle at 80 mph before losing the radar connection as Martin sped away at an estimated speed of about 90 mph, according to the report. Martin eventually stopped his motorcycle at South Division Street in the city of Colby, tipping over his motorcycle in the process, police said.
When the officer asked Martin to undergo field sobriety tests, Martin allegedly responded by saying, “don’t bother.”
Preliminary breath test results taken shortly after Martin’s arrest showed his blood alcohol concentration was 0.16 percent, eight times the 0.02 limit imposed on him due to his previous convictions.
Blood test results are pending.
Court records show previous OWI-related convictions in 1992, 1993, 2015, 2016, 2017 and again in May 2019.
A preliminary hearing is set for Aug. 28.
