WAUSAU — Monk Botanical Gardens will install lights this year along the gardens’ trails, gardens, buildings and parking lots as part of its mission to drive private and night time events and provide safety for staff members and visitors alike.

The Light Up the Gardens project will serve over 8,000 people in 2020 and 15 percent more each year thereafter, according to Monk Botanical Gardens.

The project is funded by a City of Wausau’s Environmental Impact Matching Grant ($33,500); Wisconsin Public Service Foundation ($11,800), North Central Community Foundation ($10,000), Dwight & Linda Davis Foundation ($15,000) and William M. & Mary Nell Re Family Fund ($1,000).

Serving over 7,500 community members through its educational programs in 2018, Monk Botanical Gardens, at 1800 N. First Ave., is a place for education, reflection and rejuvenation.
