Police on Monday released new details about an officer-involved shooting that happened Saturday evening in the Lincoln County town of Corning.
Police say a deputy shot a 46-year-old Merrill man, but have so far declined to release his identity. The man was airlifted to a hospital, where he is in stable condition as of early Monday.
In a news release, Lincoln County Sheriff’s Lt. Tim Fischer said the incident began as a traffic stop related to a domestic incident. Scanner traffic indicated the situation began to unfold at about 5 p.m. Saturday, Aug. 24.
When law enforcement pulled the suspect’s vehicle over on Hwy. 64, the man opened the door of the vehicle and displayed a weapon and was shot by a deputy, the release stated.
The deputy, whose name has not been released, is a 13-year law enforcement veteran.
The state Department of Criminal Investigation is investigating the incident, which is standard protocol for officer-involved shootings.
No officers were injured, police said.
