Crews from multiple departments battled a blaze that broke out Tuesday at a barn near Marathon.

The blaze was reported at 6:25 p.m. on Apline Road near Hwy. 107. Firefighters from SAFER and Marathon were initially called to the scene, where heavy smoke was pouring from the building. Smoke could be seen from as far away as Hwy. 29.

At least five additional fire departments were called in to assist.

Witnesses said a number of cows were standing outside the barn, but it is unclear if any animals were trapped inside.

Additional units were called in to the scene, which remained active as late as 10:30 p.m.

There’s no word on what caused the blaze.
