A 44-year-old Wausau woman with a long history of criminal charges is being held on a $10,000 cash bond after her arrest Aug. 28 on suspicion of seventh-offense drunken driving.
Holly Wilson was on active community supervision tied to an earlier cocaine and methamphetamine possession case at the time of her arrest, according to Wisconsin Department of Corrections records. She is being held in the Marathon County Jail.
Police say an officer spotted Wilson driving at about 1:39 a.m. Wednesday driving west on Central Bridge Street and noticed a brake light was out. The officer followed Wilson through several Wausau streets and attempted to pull her over at the intersection of Cherry Street and Strowbridge Avenue, but Wilson continued on despite lights and sirens being activated, according to the criminal complaint.
Wilson eventually pulled into the driveway of her Cherry Street residence and emerged from the vehicle to speak with the officer. But when the officer returned to his squad for a records check on Wilson, she took off running, police said. Wilson was found lying in a garden in the backyard of her home.
Based on Wilson’s slurred speech, glossy eyes and flight response, combined with a “strong odor” of intoxicants, the officer asked Wilson to undergo field sobriety tests. After allegedly failing those tests Wilson declined to submit to a preliminary breath test and was taken to a local hospital for a blood draw, according to the criminal complaint.
The results of that test are pending.
Wilson made her initial appearance Aug. 29 in Marathon County Circuit Court, where Circuit Judge LaMont Jacobson ordered the cash bond. If Wilson is convicted on the charge, she faces between three and 12 1/2 years in prison but could also spend additional time behind bars connected to her earlier cases.
A preliminary hearing is set for Sept. 4.
