The following significant events were reported to the Lincoln County Sheriff’s Department for the week ending Sept. 9, 2019:
A 42-year-old Tomahawk man was arrested Monday evening after deputies responded to a disturbance in the Town of Bradley. Just after 9 p.m. a 911 call reported a person who had been stabbed at a residence off of County Road S. The man was arrested on felony charges of second degree recklessly endangering safety, substantial battery and a misdemeanor charge of disorderly conduct. The victim did not suffer any life threatening injuries.
A Merrill woman fell victim to scam this last week. She was contact by a man claiming to be a Merrill police officer. She was told due to a civil lawsuit against her, a warrant had been issued for her arrest. The thief offered to settle the matter if she paid $2,000 in gift cards purchased from a local box store. The woman purchased the cards and provided the scammer with the numbers. Deputies checked and found the money was immediately removed from the cards and could not be recovered.
A 42-year-old Irma woman was arrested Thursday morning after deputies responded to a home at 2 a.m. for a report of an intoxicated woman “causing trouble.” The woman was taken into custody on a charge of disorderly conduct.
A 24-year-old Wausau woman was cited early Friday morning after deputies found a vehicle parked on the US Hwy. 51 overpass between County Road Q and State Road 64. The woman allegedly showed signs of impairment and was placed through field sobriety tests. As a result of those tests the woman was cited for a first offense of operating a motor vehicle while intoxicated.
A 28-year-old Tomahawk woman was arrested Friday afternoon on a warrant charge for failure to pay fines in multiple cases in Lincoln County.
Sheriff Schneider, his deputies and firefighters from three departments searched the Wisconsin River near Tomahawk on Saturday afternoon after two people traveling in kayaks reported they were stranded on an island after being caught in heavy rapids. The kayakers were found uninjured. This is the second incident in that stretch of water in the last two months. The Wisconsin River in this area is known for its changing and sometimes dangerous conditions.
A 22-year-old Merrill man was cited after a traffic stop Sunday morning in the Town of Pine River. Just after 2 a.m. a deputy observed a vehicle strike several traffic barrels on East Main Street. The driver showed signs of impairment. After field sobriety tests he was cited for a first offense of operating a motor vehicle while intoxicated.
The number of deer crashes slowed this past week with only six being reported. Last Monday a Brown County man struck a turkey while traveling on US Hwy. 51 near Tomahawk. On Wednesday morning a Phillips woman struck and killed a bear on US Hwy. 8 near Martin Drive in the Town of Somo.
