WAUSAU– The Wausau West Warriors’ perfect season remains intact after a 5-1 victory over cross-town rival Wausau East on Thursday.
The game was called early due to inclement weather.
West scored four goals in the first half to put the Lumberjacks on their heels.
Nicholas Raasch pounded home two goals for the Warriors– one in the first half and one in the second half.
Kyle Durr, Tim DeLoye and Ethan Cattanach also netted goals for West.
East’s lone goal was scored by Noutong Lao.
It was the fourth conference victory for the Warriors, while East falls to 1-2 in conference play.
So far in Wisconsin Valley Conference play, the Warriors have scored 16 goals and given up just two.
Both West and East will return to action this this weekend at a tournament scheduled to take place at Wausau West.
D.C. Everest vs. Marshfield SUSPENDED
With 14:40 remaining in the first half, play was halted due to inclement weather. No word yet on when this match will be made up. Everest had a 1-0 lead when the game was stopped.
Wausau East 128, Wausau West 42
The Lumberjacks were in complete control on Thursday in their first Wisconsin Valley Conference meet of the season.
The Lumberjacks’ Alison Gilles took first in the 50 yard freestyle and the 100 yard freestyle. Gilles was also a member of the first place 200 medley relay team and the 200 freestyle relay.
East’s Emma Clifford took first in the 500 freestyle, while Sydney Schjoneman was first in the 200 freestyle.
Schjoneman also earned a first place finish in the 100 backstroke.
Wausau East 3, Rapids 0
The Lumberjacks made quick work of the Red Raiders. Set scores favored East 25-18. 25-20, 25-6.
MaKenzi Gale had 15 kills to pace the Lumberjacks, while Taylor Pagel had 10 kills and Grace Stimac added nine kills.
Kendra Behnke had 23 assists; Gabby Braatz added 16 assists.
Leading East in digs was Chelsie Lambrecht with 17.
