The mother of a 16-year-old boy shot Wednesday near downtown Wausau is now facing criminal charges after police determined she drove her son to meet the suspect in order to sell marijuana products, according to a news release.
The shooting, which happened shortly after 6:30 p.m. on September 11 on Langsdorf Street, resulted in attempted homicide charges against 20-year-old Kaiden Bemowski of Wausau. He remains jailed as of Thursday.
New details in the case were released late Thursday by investigators who say the victim’s 46-year-old mother knew her son was going to Bemowski for a “marijuana transaction,” according to a news release. But Bemowski, who lives near the meetup location, allegedly intended to rob the boy with the help of a 14-year-old girl, police said.
The teen girl grabbed the marijuana product and ran, police said, and when the victim chased after her he was allegedly shot by Bemowski.
The victim suffered a gunshot wound that grazed his head. He remains hospitalized but is expected to recover.
The victim’s mother, whose name has not been released, faces charges including contributing to the delinquency of a child. The 14-year-old girl is also facing charges of armed robbery.
The victim is also facing charges related to the intended marijuana transaction, police said.
The handgun has not been recovered and an investigation is ongoing. Anyone with information is urged to call 715-251-7800.
