WAUSAU– At Trapp River, the Wausau girls golf team had a stellar day in Leg #5 of the Wisconsin Valley Conference meet, placing second with a team score of 202.

Jasmine Yang once again paced the team with a low score of 43, which tied for second place among all golfers.

Meanwhile, Kit Kronberger fired a 51, which was her best score to date in a conference meet.

Rounding out the scoring for Wausau, Tess Bruner shot a 53, Annika Tordsen carded a 55 and Jess Nardi shot a 56.

SPASH took first place with a team score of 174.  SPASH’s Abby Nickel was medalist.

Going into Leg #6, which will take place at Marshfield on September 24, Yang holds a two point lead in the overall individual standings.

SPASH leads the overall team standings, while Wausau holds on to second place.

Stratford 3, Newman 0

Fifth-ranked Stratford took care of Newman with a 3-0 sweep.  Set scores were 25-19, 25-19, 25-18 in favor of the Tigers.

Newman was led in kills by Linnea Svennes with 12.  Lauren Shiends added 10 kills.

Angela Rougeot-Donath paced the team with 20 digs, while Stevie Samuels had 21 assists.

Newman will look to rebound against D.C. Everest on Thursday.

Boys Soccer

Marshfield 4, Wausau East 0

The Lumberjacks came up short in a Wisconsin Valley Conference showdown with Marshfield.

Marshfield took a 1-0 lead in the first half on an early goal by Sam Roherty.

Bennett Koehn found the back of the net in the second half, while Kyle Tremelling netted two goals for the Tigers subsequent to intermission.

East managed just five shots, while Marshfield had 21 shots.

East is now 2-6 overall and 1-3 in the Valley; Marshfield improves to 5-3-1 overall and 3-1 in conference play.

The Lumberjacks knocked off cross town rival Wausau West as Lola Berumen came up with a win in singles while East swept their doubles matches.

Wausau East 3, Rhinelander 0

In non-conference action on Monday, Wausau East toppled visiting Rhinelander 3-0.  Set scores were 25-9, 25-7, 25-15 in favor of the Lumberjacks.

Leading East in kills was Taylor Pagel with 15.  Kendra Behnke had 12 assists, while Gabby Braatz added 11 assists.  Chelsie Lambrecht had three digs and Grace Stimac contributed five aces.

Also of note, Makenzie Gale had 16 straight serves in the second set to put the Lumberjacks up 17-0.
