Police say one person is dead and two people are hospitalized following a three-vehicle crash Saturday in Portage County.

The crash happened just before 5 p.m. on Hwy. 10 at the intersection of Hwy. 10 and Algoma Street in the town of Hull.

An initial crash investigation shows a westbound Saturn Ion passenger car collided head on with an eastbound Sierra GMC pickup, according to a Portage County Sheriff’s Department news release. A third vehicle sustained minor damage in the crash.

Two people were transported to area hospitals for injuries, the extent of which was not  specified in the release. The driver of the Saturn was unresponsive upon officers’ arrival and was pronounced dead at the scene by the Portage County Medical Examiner.

The Wisconsin State Patrol Accident Reconstruction Team responded to the scene to assist in the accident investigation and reconstruction. The cause of the crash is still under investigation. Traffic on Hwy. 10 between Hwy. R and Hwy. J was re-routed for several hours while the scene was processed and cleared.
