WAUSAU– The Wausau East girls tennis team came up with a big Wisconsin Valley Conference win on Tuesday as they knocked off SPASH 5-2.

The Lumberjacks swept their singles matches as Savannah Carroll, Lea Ratawong, Claire Peterson and Lola Berumen each picked up victories.

In doubles action, SPASH held a 2-1 advantage over East.

The Lumberjacks improve to 5-0 in Valley play and will travel to Wisconsin Rapids on Thursday as conference play resumes.

Girls Golf

The sixth leg of the Wisconsin Valley Conference girls golf meet took place at the Marshfield Country Club on Tuesday, and Wausau earned a second place finish with a team score of 194.

SPASH took first place at 171.

Wausau was led once again by Jasmine Yang, who placed third overall with a 43.

The day’s medalist was SPASH’s Abby Nickel, who carded a 40.  Ally Nickel, also of SPASH, was second with 43.

Abby Nickel holds a slight lead over Yang for the overall individual crown with one leg left to go.

Yang has a total of 70 points, while Nickel has 70.5 points.

Leg #7 will take place in Stevens Point on Wednesday, September 25.

Boys Soccer

D.C. Everest 4, Merrill 0

The Evergreens improved to 5-5-1 on the season and 3-3 in the Wisconsin Valley Conference with a win over Merrill.

Tamirat Knutson earned a hat trick with three goals.

Kyle Jaglinski had a goal for the Evergreens, while Connor Schommer added an assist.

The Evergreens out-shot Merrill 12-4.

Matt Schafer had four saves for Everest; Merrill’s Zane Westberg recorded eight saves.
