Daly’s Restaurant, which opened two years ago in Wausau, will close its doors on Oct. 20 — but a new eatery is already in the works for the downtown space.

On Thursday, Jim and Tee Daly announced the closure on the restaurant’s Facebook page and confirmed their plans in a message to Wausau Pilot and Review. The restaurant will close Oct. 20.

“While we loved all the great times we had at Daly’s we are going to retire and devote more time to each other and our family,” the couple said. “We are so thankful for all the wonderful friendships, great staff and loyal customers who have supported us throughout the years.”

The Dalys opened Basil, located at 2106 Schofield Ave., in January 2010, bringing a new fusion of flavors to Weston, but sold the restaurant to their daughter after opening Daly’s Restaurant, 307 Third St., Wausau.

Compass Properties Manager Mark Craig said the restaurant will remain closed for several weeks for rebranding purposes before chef Adam Jamgochian reopens the space as Ciao. Jamgochian is the current chef and an owner of Michael’s Supper Club, a Rib Mountain restaurant that closed this month after selling the building to Glass Nickel Pizza.

“We have just enjoyed working with the Dalys tremendously,” Craig said. “They’re great people with a great business, and they really brought their own vibe to the downtown, bringing in great music in such a fantastic atmosphere.”

Ciao is expected to open in early November, Craig said.
