STEVENS POINT — The Central Wisconsin Symphony Orchestra will debut its 71st season, titled “CommUNITY,” featuring artists who have special ties to central Wisconsin on Oct. 12 and 13.

The October “United Beginnings” concerts kick off with “Millenium Canons,” written by Pulitzer Prize-winning composer Kevin Puts.

The concerts will be held at the Sentry Theater, 1800 North Point Ave., Stevens Point. The Oct. 12 performance will be held at 7:30 p.m. and the Oct. 13 performance at 4 p.m.

New this year, the CWSO will offer pre-concert talks with Music Director Andres Moran, who will give insights on the pieces, composers and guest artists. These discussions will take place from 6:30 p.m. to 7 p.m. on Oct. 12 and 3 p.m. to 3:30 p.m. Oct. 13.

In conjunction with CWSO’s opening concerts, the Smith Scarabocchio Art Museum will offer an exhibit titled “Collage Ensemble,” featuring the artwork of Nancy Thorson and Marie App.

“Collage Ensemble” can be viewed from Oct. 7 to Nov. 16. The pieces will be available for purchase. Smith Scarabocchio Art Museum hours are Monday through Thursday, 10 a.m. – 4 p.m.
