UPDATE: At least one person is dead and multiple injuries have been reported in a shooting spree early Thursday on Wausau’s southeast side, according to witnesses, scanner reports and law enforcement statements.

At about 8:45 a.m. police and rescue crews were called to Pine Grove Cemetery, 1501 Grand Ave., Wausau, for a report of a possible gunshot wound to a female victim. From there, units were directed to a second gunshot victim at a maintenance building near the sports complex on Curling Way.

A third victim was discovered just before 9 a.m. at the cemetery near the front entrance with a gunshot wound. Additional crews were then called to the scene, but it is not clear if any additional victims are involved.

The shooter, who fled on bicycle, is in custody. The suspect’s name has not been released.

Crews were initially called at about 8:15 a.m. Thursday to a report of a fire 121 Fullmer Street in Schofield as heavy smoke poured from the garage. The blaze has since been extinguished, but the Marathon County Bomb Squad was called to the scene and a significant police presence remained there for several hours. Police have confirmed the blaze is connected to the shooting and will update the media during a 2 p.m. news conference on Thursday.

This story will be updated as additional information is confirmed.
