WAUSAU – Sara Mayer and Bethany Rohn each scored a pair of first-place individual results and D.C. Everest grabbed a 105-65 win over Wausau East on Thursday night in a battle of Wisconsin Valley Conference unbeatens.
Mayer claimed the 200-yard freestyle in a time of 2 minutes, 0.81 seconds and added another first in the 100 freestyle (55.03). Rahn turned in winning efforts in the 100 butterfly (59.7) and 500 freestyle (5:24.66).
DCE also received first-place showings from Beleni Mandli in the 200 IM (2:25.55) and Maddie Van Ermen in the 100 breaststroke (1:12.51).
The Evergreens (3-0 WVC) also won two of the three relay events, coming out on top in the 200 medley and 200 freestyle relays.
Alison Gilles and Emma Clifford led the way for East (3-1) with winning performance in the 500 freestyle (26.14) and 100 backstroke (1:02.52), respectively.
Wisconsin Rapids 109, Wausau West 60
WAUSAU – Carmin Wipperfurth accounted for the only first-place result with a winning time of 2:17.02 in the 200 freestyle, but the Warriors took it on the chin against the Raiders in a Valley dual meet.
Wipperfurth also added a runner-up finish in the 500 freestyle (6:22.56).
Second-place showings were also turned in by West’s Lillie Sunby in the 50 freestyle (28.4) and 100 butterfly (1:15.33), along with Annaliese Wagers in the 200 IM (2:34.52) and 100 breaststroke (1:17.84).
Emma Steinbach added a second in the 100 freestyle (1:02.74) as did Madyson Olson in the 100 backstroke (1:13.17).
Girls tennis
WVC Meet
WAUSAU – Bolstered by titles at No. 3 and 4 singles as well as No. 3 doubles, Wausau East completed a season sweep by claiming the Valley dual meet and tournament crowns to earn the outright conference championship.
The Lumberjacks finished with a total of 104 points to edge crosstown rival Wausau West which was second with 88 points. SPASH wound up a close third at 85.
Bringing home WVC titles for the Lumberjacks were Claire Peterson at No. 3 singles and Lola Berumen, who blanked West’s Molly Schaefer 6-0, 6-0 in the title match at No. 4 singles.
Brittany Khammanivong and Katie Martell clinched the Valley title for East with a 6-4, 6-4 win over Sophia Wardour and Kiara Coombs of Wisconsin Rapids in the finals at No. 3 doubles.
All was not lost for the Warriors.
Natasha Bailey and Lilia Teske capped off dominant runs through the conference by cruising to titles at No. 1 and 2 singles, respectively.
Bailey didn’t drop a set Thursday to pick up a pair of wins, including a 6-3, 6-2 win over Savannah Carroll of East in the finals. Teske took down the Lumberjacks’ Lea Ratanawong to be crowned the No. 2 singles champion.
Volleyball
SPASH 3, Wausau East 1
WAUSAU – Taylor Pagel finished with 19 kills, and Kendra Behnke and Gabby Braatz handed out 20 and 17 assists, respectively, but the Lumberjacks dropped a 25-20, 18-25, 25-23, 25-20 WVC verdict to the Panthers.
Chelsie Lambrecht paced the defensive effort for East with 18 digs. Pagel, who chipped in with three blocks, helped out with 16 digs and Braatz also finished in double figures with 10.
Grace Stimac collected five blocks while Behnke served up four aces.
Wausau West 3, Chippewa Falls 0
CHIPPEWA FALLS – Robyn Kirsch collected a team-high 16 kills and the Warriors swept aside the Cardinals 25-22, 25-20, 25-15 in a nonconference dual meet.
Grace Michalske ran the attack with 27 assists. Kirsch and Michalske were each credited with 11 digs to key a strong defensive performance. Kiley Deaton helped out with 10 digs.
West also combined to rack up nine aces.
Boys Soccer
Wausau West 3, D.C. Everest 1
WESTON– The Warriors picked up another big Wisconsin Valley Conference victory with two second half goals to improve to 8-1 in conference play.
Everest’s lone score came from an own goal by the Warriors.
Ethan Cattanach, Joseph Her and Nicholas Raasch each netted goals for the Warriors.
Raasch also had an assist.
Everest had six shots, while West had eight.
Matt Schafer recorded five saves for the Evergreens, while Noah Knezic had six saves for the Warriors.
