A 55-year-old Stevens Point man accused of climbing a ladder to peer into a woman’s window and film her with a video camera is now facing criminal charges.

Randall Cherney appeared Friday in Portage County Circuit Court, where he faces preliminary charges of capturing an intimate representation and violating privacy. Formal charges are expected on or before Oct. 21.

Police responded at about 9 p.m. Tuesday, Oct. 1, to a town of Plover home in the Bluebird Acres subdivision for a report of a possible peeping tom. Deputies found tracks outside the woman’s window that led to a nearby home.

When investigators spoke with Cherney, he allegedly admitted placing the ladder outside the woman’s window and filming her.

Cherney is free on a $3,000 cash bond.

In a news release, sheriff’s officials say the circumstances of the case are similar to several other reports in recent years. Anyone who has experienced a similar issue is urged to call Portage County Crime Stoppers at 888-346-6600.
