WAUSAU– The Wausau West Warriors kept things rolling on Tuesday against cross-town rival Wausau East as they came away with a 5-0 victory in Wisconsin Valley Conference action.
West improves to 8-1 in conference play, one game up in the loss column over Marshfield, who defeated D.C. Everest on Tuesday.
Junior Nicholas Raasch got the party started for West, netting the game’s first goal.
Joining Raasch in the goal-scoring parade were Ethan Cattanach, Kyle Durr, who scored twice, and Arath Medina.
With the loss, East falls to 2-7 in the Valley.
The Lumberjacks will move on to play Marshfield on Thursday, while West will resume conference play against Marshfield on October 15.
Marshfield 4, D.C. Everest 2
The Evergreens jumped out to a 2-0 lead over Marshfield, but the Tigers got the last laugh as they cruised to a 4-2 win in Wisconsin Valley Conference boys soccer action.
Kyle Jaglinski netted the game’s first goal less than a minute into the first half. Tamirat Knutson had the assist on that goal.
Knutson picked up another assist, this time to Connor Schommer at the 11:40 mark.
That would be all the scoring Everest could muster, as Kyle Tremelling found the back of the net twice for the Tigers, as did Spencer Frey and Ian Haugen.
Marshfield out-shot Everest 12-3.
Matt Schafer had seven saves for Everest.
The Evergreens fall to 4-5 in conference play and will move on to face SPASH on October 10.
ONEIDA– The Wausau girls golf team took seventh place in the WIAA subsectional with a team score of 396.
Tess Bruner led Wausau with a 88, while Jasmine Yang carded a 94.
Bay Port took first place with a 340, followed by Green Bay Preble Co-op. Those two teams will advance to the sectional.
