Two people are dead after a collision between a dump truck and a box truck near Nekoosa, according to the Wisconsin State Patrol.

The crash was reported at about 10:30 a.m. Wednesday, Oct. 9 near the intersection of Hwy. 173 and Hwy. 66 in Wood County, where county highway department officials were working.

Police say the driver of an eastbound box truck struck an oncoming dump truck after moving into the westbound lane of traffic to avoid road crews.

Both drivers died at the scene. No additional passengers were involved in the crash, police said.

According to a news release issued Thursday Jason Dahms, 45, of Custer was driving the box truck. The dump truck was driven by Edward Singstock, 57, of Wisconsin Rapids, police said.
