WAUSAU — Adults 55 and older will get their first glimpse of The Landing, Marathon County’s new adult activity center, beginning Oct. 14. Doors will open at 8 a.m. at the new 15,000-square-foot facility at the Woodson YMCA, 707 Third St.

“We will be conducting tours all week and can’t wait to show our older adults what an amazing new resource this is,” said Kate Florek, operations and development director at The Landing, in a news release. The Landing will be open from 8 a.m. to 6:30 p.m. Mondays through Fridays and from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. on Saturdays. “We invite any area adults 55 and older to drop by during our open house next week and take a look.”

Florek said there will be nominal monthly membership fees to join The Landing but emphasized the new activity center is open to all, and that financial assistance is available. “No one will be turned away if they can’t afford the monthly fee,” she said. “Many Medicare Supplement plans also help defray a portion of the cost because our programs and activities emphasize healthy living and exercise.”

The Landing offers spaces for socializing, learning, playing and exercising. A social membership at The Landing will cost $20 per person per month. “We will always have the coffee pot on and other refreshments available,” Florek said. “We’re brewing great coffee from local roasters.”

Some of the amenities available to social members include pool tables, ping pong, shuffleboard, a putting green, tables for board games and cards, and multiple conversation areas with two fireplaces. There will be a room for arts and crafts, one set up with computer technology and several classrooms to accommodate a wide variety of informational presentations.

An all-access membership allows a senior to use all of the YMCA facilities including the pool, pickleball courts, exercise bikes, weight lifting equipment, gymnasiums, running/walking tracks and more. The all access membership costs $44.10/month per person ($69.85 per couple) plus a $60 one-time joiner fee.

Any adults who sign up during October can save the $60 joiner fee for the all-access membership and get a reduced rate on their first month’s social membership. “We have a lot of exciting programs, activities and trips planned,” Florek said, “but we want our members to tell us what they want to see happen at The Landing.”

Visitors to the open house can park in the Woodson YMCA parking lot at The Landing entrance on Fourth Street or park at the new YMCA lot on Third Street.
