A Wittenberg couple is dead following a two-vehicle crash Monday in the town of Franzen, according to a Marathon County Sheriff’s Department incident report.
Police have identified the victims as 71-year-old David Ashenbrenner and 78-year-old Dorothy Ashenbrenner, both of Wittenberg.
The crash was reported at about 7:30 p.m. Monday on Hwy. 49 at CTH VV at Sliding Road.
According to the report David Ashenbrenner was driving a Ford Fusion north on Hwy. 49 when he rear-ended a potato truck that was traveling at a slower rate of speed. David Ashenbrenner was pronounced dead at the scene.
His passenger, Dorothy Ashenbrenner, was airlifted to a hospital but died Oct.16 of injuries sustained in the crash, the report states.
The driver of the potato truck was not injured in the crash.
