A two-time sex offender who spent nine years behind bars on child sex charges is heading back to prison after he was discovered accessing child pornography on a tablet used for employee training at a Rib Mountain restaurant.

State Department of Corrections records show 35-year-old Eric Curtis, of Wausau, was released from Waupun Correctional Facility less than two months before his Sept. 13 arrest. He was on active supervision at the time he allegedly accessed the photos, shortly after being hired at the restaurant.

During a plea and sentencing hearing Friday, Marathon County Circuit Judge Michael Moran sentenced Curtis to eight years in prison followed by six years extended supervision. Curtis is also ordered not to have contact with anyone younger than 18 without adult supervision.

The latest charges were filed after a restaurant manager in September called police upon discovering Curtis, who was sitting in the break room with a work-issued tablet in his hand. The tablet was being used for employee training, but Curtis was instead using the tablet to access sexually explicit photos of underage boys, according to the incident report.

Online court records show Curtis has previous convictions for first degree sexual assault of a child and third degree sexual assault. Those charges date back to 2003; his extended supervision has been revoked two previous times.
