Prep roundup: Hartman takes first in WVC meet

MERRILL– The Wisconsin Valley Conference cross country meet was held on Saturday in Merrill, and Wausau West’s Ryan Hartman continued his run of dominance, earning a first place finish in the boys race.

Hartman had a time of 15:50.2, edging out Joshua McKee of Marshfield, who earned a time of 15:53.3.

SPASH took the top spot for the boys with a team score of 31.  Marshfield came in second at 64, while Wausau West finished third at 87.

D.C. Everest had 90 points, good for fifth place, and Wausau East’s score of 194 notched them a sixth place finish out of seven teams.

D.C. Everest was paced by Zach Brandenburg, who finished seventh overall.

Wausau East’s Jacob Olson placed 23rd.

Ben Stangel of Wausau West cracked the top 15 with a 14th place showing.

Meanwhile, on the girls side, Roisin Willis of SPASH blew away the field with a first place finish and a time of 17:48.7.

McKenna Taylor of Wausau East cracked the top 10 with a 19:43.6 time, good for sixth place.

SPASH was first overall with a team score of 33, followed by Rapids.

Wausau East checked in in fourth place, beating out fifth place Wausau West.

Everest checked in at sixth place with a team score of 151.

Kiki Liss was 12th overall for Wausau East with a time of 20:31, and teammate Hailey Valiska was 21st at 21:11.

Alex Galang paced Wausau West with a 14th place finish, followed by Sidney Galang’s 23rd place showing.

Everest’s Hanna Stuedemann led the Evergreens, placing 20th.  Stuedemann’s time was 21:10.  Kaylie Lyga followed Stuedemann with a 24th place finish.

Wausau West Invitational

WAUSAU– The Wausau West Warriors concluded regular season play on Saturday as they notcked a 4-1 record at their own tournament.

West finishes the season with a 26-8 overall record.

Eau Claire Regis, by virtue of a tiebreaker, claimed the tournament title with a 4-1 record Saturday.

The Warriors were led in kills by Robyn Kirsch, who had 42.

Jenna Rusch had 48 digs and Grace Michalske contributed 34 digs.

Michalske paced the Warriors with 92 assists.

Girls Tennis

MADISON– Wausau West’s Natasha Bailey earned a fifth place finish at the state meet on Saturday, defeating Autumn Bruno of Whitnall 3-6 , 6-1 , 6-4.

Football

D.C. Everest, fresh off a big win over SPASH, learned their playoff matchup, which is scheduled for Friday, October 25.

The Evergreens will hit the road to take on Appleton East.

Everest was 5-4 overall, while East finished the season 6-3 playing in the ultra competitive VFA-North.

Meanwhile, Newman Catholic, who fought to a 9-0 record this season, will square off against Marion/Tigerton in their Level 1 game.

Marion/Tigerton was 6-3 this season.
