More than 60 racers crossed the finish line Saturday in the first IRONBULL Red Granite Grinder, a bike race that is part of a new effort to promote outdoor recreation in Wausau.
The Oct. 19 race featured three routes spanning all ability levels including a 140-mile option that spanned 15 townships and municipalities, offering a challenge for even the most experienced gravel racers. An 80-mile and 12-mile option were also part of the event.
The race drew participants from as far away as Nashville. More than a dozen racers completed the 140-mile option.
The overall race winner in the 140-mile category was Jake Buescher, of Chicago, who finished the race in 8 hours, 9 minutes and 20 seconds. For complete results, visit the official IRONBULL page here.
The next IRONBULL event is the Winter Triathlon, a sprint style triathlon held at Nine Mile Forest. Disciplines include cross country skiing (7k skate or classic), fat tire biking (10k), and snowshoing (5k). The event is planned for Jan. 26.
