WAUSAU – The Wausau West boys soccer team already has a Wisconsin Valley Conference championship – its first since 2005 – secured this season.
Now you can add a regional semifinal victory to the list of accomplishments for the Warriors.
Third-seeded West earned a spot in the regional title match by dismantling Superior 5-2 on its home field Tuesday to improve to 15-1-2 on the season..
The Warriors will travel to second-seeded Hudson, an 8-0 winner over Chippewa Falls, at a time to be determined Saturday.

STEVENS POINT – It should come as no surprise the Wisconsin Valley Conference rivals would be involved in a tight contest in their Division 1 regional opener.
Isaac Williams’ goal at 11:38 of the opening half proved to be the difference as SPASH ended the Evergreens season in heartbreaking fashion at Scaffidi Field.
“It was a really great match that was very back and forth,” Evergreens coach Joshua Roloff said. “It was tough to see the season come to an end, but I’m proud of our guys for battling hard tonight and leaving it all out on the field.
“I couldn’t ask for anything more than that as a head coach.”
The Panthers used a considerable territorial, and shot, advantage to make the lead stand up over the final 78:22. SPASH held a 14-2 edge in shots on goal.
Evergreens keeper Matt Schafer kept his team within striking distance with an outstanding performance in goal. He finished with 12 saves. SPASH’s Spencer Banks stopped two shots.
Talk about being evenly matched. Both regular season meetings between the teams came down to the wire.
SPASH picked up a 2-1 win on its home field. The Evergreens rebounded to earn a 2-2 tie when the teams met in Weston near the end of the conference season.
“Point created a lot of opportunities and played really well,” Roloff said. “Even though we were outshot 14-2, I felt that we created chances but we just couldn’t put shots on frame.”
The Panthers will take on top-seeded Eau Claire Memorial, a 7-0 winner over Eau Claire North, at a time to be determined Saturday.

GREEN BAY – The Lumberjacks found goals tough to come by in a regional semifinal loss at the hands of the Red Devils.

WAUSAU – The Cardinals began their question for a ninth consecutive trip to the WIAA state tournament with a comfortable 25-13, 25-11, 25-9 sweep over the Eagles in a regional opener.
Next up for second-seeded Newman Catholic is a semifinal date Thursday with No. 7 seed Pittsville, a 25-17, 25-18, 20-25, 25-20 winner over Wisconsin Valley Lutheran.
