One person is in custody Friday after the Marathon County bomb squad investigated a suspicious device in the man’s backpack.

Police were initially called at about 9:40 a.m. Thursday regarding a man slumped over the wheel of his vehicle on 10th Avenue North. The man was revived, but when a suspicious device was discovered in the man’s backpack the bomb squad was called in for safety reasons, police said.

The “device” was actually a cardboard tube containing welding rods and the public was not in any danger, police said.

Police have not specified the nature of the charges against the man, whose name was not released.
