MIDDLETON– On October 18, the Newman Cardinals blasted Belmont 52-20 in regular season 8-player action.

On Friday night in the state semifinal game played between the same teams at Britenbach Stadium in Middleton, the result was pretty much the same as Newman fought to a 49-16 win to advance to the state championship.

Newman will square off against Luck in the state title game on Saturday, November 16 in Chippewa Falls.

Luck crushed Shell Lake 56-15 to advance to the championship.

Once again, Newman quarterback Ben Bates had a big night, throwing for 243 yards and two touchdowns.

Bates had plenty of help from his receivers as Joe Stephan rolled up 131 yards and Charlie McCarty added 104 yards.

Meanwhile, Thomas Bates led the Cardinals in rushing with 148 yards.

The Cardinals’ record stands at 12-0 with one game left to go in the 2019 campaign.
