A fraud complaint, a reckless driver and a vehicle striking a bear reported to the Lincoln County Sheriff’s Department for the week ending Nov. 11, 2019:

  • A 29-year-old Merrill man was arrested Tuesday morning on a warrant charge from the Shawano County Sheriff for failing to pay a fine in a criminal traffic matter.
  • An elderly Tomahawk man became the victim of a scam last week. The man was contacted via  phone and the scammers used the story of an accident involving his nephew and needing $2,500 in bond money as he was arrested in Chicago. The man was instructed to go to the Home Depot which he did. The victim phoned the scammer back and provided him with the numbers on the cards and deputies believe the money was liquidated immediately. Deputies think the scammer might be based in Canada but the chances of recovering the money is unlikely.
  • A 35-year-old Ashland woman was arrested Sunday afternoon after deputies stopped a reckless driver. A deputy located and stopped the woman near Merrill at 4:48 p.m. The woman was cited for a first offense of operating a motor vehicle while intoxicated.
  • The number of deer crashes continues to increase with 19 reported this past week. On Monday a Merrill man reported striking a bear in the Town of Pine River on County Rd G.
