Why did you choose UW-Stevens Point at Wausau?

I graduated from high school last January, allowing me to enroll early at my local two-year institution, UW-Stevens Point at Wausau. This was an awesome place for me to begin my college education because of the small student body and helpful professors.

What surprised you the most about the university when you arrived on campus?

I was most surprised how kind and understanding every student, professor and staff member was. The environment at UW-Stevens Point at Wausau is amazing, with a fantastic support system.

How or when did you discover your purpose? How did UW-Stevens Point at Wausau faculty/staff help?

When I arrived at UW-Stevens Point at Wausau, I applied and was accepted into a Wisconsin Institute for Public Policy and Service program. This three-week study-away class allowed me to see how public policy works in Madison and Washington, D.C. That trip motivated me to apply for and receive an internship in Seventh Congressional District Representative Sean Duffy’s office in Wausau. After the congressman announced his retirement, I was hired by the district’s Constituent Office. I love working in politics more than I ever expected. Politics not only gives me an opportunity to voice my opinion but to hear others’ experiences and opinions.

Why did you choose your program/major?

I chose political science as a major because it is a common path to take as an undergraduate for going onto law school. However, along the way, I discovered I love politics. It’s a fast-paced, constantly changing profession, which keeps me on my toes and is incredibly fun.

Who has been your favorite professor or staff member?

Ingrid Clark Zavadoski is my favorite instructor. She is a great source for students who are strong writers but open to suggestions on how to make their papers stronger. She has shaped me into the writer I am today with her expert critiquing ability.

In addition to being a college student, what takes up your free time?

When I’m not studying, I love to exercise. A workout really helps me relieve stress while improving my health. I love different workouts, such as kickboxing, high-intensity interval training and hot yoga, which challenge me to keep my mind focused on the workout instead of distractions around me.

What do you plan to do after attending UW-Stevens Point at Wausau?

After earning my associate degree, I’m hoping to attend UW-Madison or Hillsdale College in Michigan next fall.
