Police say human remains discovered in a Nebraska trailer could belong to two missing Wisconsin brothers who are believed victims in a Missouri homicide.
Deputies responded to a ranch just south of Hershey, Nebraska late last week after a rancher reported finding human remains in a trailer he recently bought in Missouri, according to the Lincoln County (Nebraska) Sheriff’s Department.
WDAF-TV in Kansas City reports the rancher found a tub filled with “animal supplement” and saw what he thought was human remains when he prepared to spread the dirt in the tub in his driveway. The suspected remains have since been confirmed as definitely human, police said.
Personal items were also in the tub, police said.
Officials say the remains could belong to either Nick or Justin Diemel, who police believe were killed in northwestern Missouri this summer.
Investigators with the Caldwell County Sheriff’s Department in Missouri confirmed the remains could belong to the homicide victims. Caldwell County Investigators and Missouri State Police flew into Lincoln County later in the evening and picked up the remains. The investigation is ongoing.
Garland “Joey” Nelson, 25, faces counts of first-degree murder in connection with the case, which could result in his execution.
He also faces additional charges of abandonment of a corpse, tampering with physical evidence, armed criminal action, tampering with a motor vehicle and unlawful possession of a firearm.
