Search warrants reviewed by WXPR in Rhinelander reveal former Weston Administrator Dan Guild is the target of a felony investigation that prompted a lockdown of Rhinelander City Hall, according to a WXPR’s Ben Meyer.
Detectives from multiple agencies entered the building just before 9:30 a.m. Thursday, Nov. 21, and executed search warrants in connection with the ongoing investigation targeting a single individual, according to an Oneida County news release.
Guild, who resigned under fire in 2018 from his role in Weston, has now been identified as the target of the criminal probe. His resignation came five days after returning from what was initially a six-week suspension ordered May 24, 2018 following a closed session meeting in the village. Weston officials later vacated the suspension and agreed to pay him more than $68,000 upon his voluntary resignation.
Guild took the job in Rhinelander in September 2018.
The investigation has been underway for “months” and involves agencies in Oneida, Price and Vilas County. Marathon County investigators are also on scene. Wisconsin Department of Justice – Digital Forensics Support assisted in executing the state warrants, Hess said.
Potential charges include tampering with public records and misconduct in public office, Hess stated in his release.
No official charges have been filed.
