WAUSAU– The Wausau East girls basketball team beat Green Bay East 64-49 on Tuesday to improve to 3-2 on the season.

The Lumberjacks were led by Elizabeth Boulanger, who scored 14 points. Abby Thompson added 13 points.

Chippewa Falls 58, Everest 37

WESTON– The Evergreens tallied just 15 points in the first half of their non-conference tilt against Chippewa Falls on Tuesday as the Cardinals cruised to a 58-37 victory.

Everest got 15 points from Hanna Stuedemann and 10 points from Kiara Hammond.

Caelan Givens led Falls with 19 points.

Boys Basketball

Marathon 78, Newman 35

MARATHON– Jordan Koeller and Clarke Mouw led the Red Raiders to a big 78-35 victory over Newman.

Koeller led Marathon with 20 points and Mouw added 19.

The Red Raiders raced out to a 49-17 lead at halftime and never looked back.

Newman got 18 points from Charlie McCarty.  11 of McCarty’s points came subsequent to intermission.

WAUSAU – Seniors Jack Piskula and Jared Heller tallied goals but the Bluejacks were doubled up by the Thunderbirds in a nonconference matchup at Marathon Park.

Heller accounted for the lone goal of the opening period to stake East-Merrill United to an early lead.

Lakeland came out flying in the second period and struck for three unanswered goals to grab a 3-1 lead. Max Toijala paced the Thunderbirds’ attack with a pair of goals and an assist.

A power-play goal from Piskula at 4:03 of the final period brought the Bluejacks within a goals. Any hopes of a comeback ended when Toijala found the empty net with 53 seconds remaining to close out the scoring.

Freshmen Bluejacks goalie Jake Furrer stopped 30 shots while Lakeland goalie Collin Guelcher was credited with 15 saves.
