Police and rescue crews have responded to multiple crashes Monday afternoon as a winter storm system is bringing ice and snow to the region, creating treacherous travel conditions throughout the area.

Crashes include a single vehicle rollover on Hwy. 29 westbound, west of Wausau; a three-vehicle crash on I-39 southbound at mile marker 172; a two-vehicle crash on Hwy. 97 in the town of McMillan; and a crash on Hwy. 51 at CTH NN in Rib Mountain.

The Wisconsin Department of Transportation is reporting roads are snow-covered and slippery west of Wausau on Hwy. 29 and on Hwy. 51 north of Wausau, as well as I-39 south of Wausau. Slippery stretches are being reported east of Wausau on Hwy. 29.

A winter weather advisory is in effect until 6 p.m. Drivers are urged to slow down and allow extra time for the Monday afternoon commute.
