A 54-year-old Mosinee man is facing negligent homicide charges connected to a crash that killed a “Good Samaritan” who was helping a stranded driver in September 2018.
Charges were filed Wednesday, Dec. 11 against Scott Searing, who is being summoned into court.
Police say a man pulling a camper stopped on the shoulder of I-39 near Rothschild at about 7 p.m. on Sept. 4, 2018. Randal Landwehr, 62, stopped his semi to help the man change the tire and was struck by a passing box truck driven by Searing, according to police.
Crash reconstruction data shows the camper and semi were pulled far enough over to the side of the road that neither vehicle was actually touching the rumble strips on the highway. The camper had emergency flashers on, while Landwehr’s semi had flashing lights as well.
A date for an initial appearance has not yet been set.
