WESTON – Wausau West left no doubt Friday night its serious about adding another Marathon Cup championship to the trophy case.

Carson Marquardt recorded a hat trick in a seven-goal opening period and added an assist as the second-ranked Warriors cruised to a 10-0 win over Wausau East-Merrill in a semifinal matchup at Greenheck Ice Arena.

West will play the winner of the D.C. Everest/Mosinee game later Friday for the title Saturday night.

Lucas Langlois chipped in with a goal and a pair of assists in the first period, while Brady Cleveland finished with three assists. Thomas Gerum and Jacob Cebula helped out with a goal and an assist each.

Jake furrer turned in a strong performance in goal for the Bluejacks with 44 saves.

BOYS BASKETBALL

D.C. Everest 93, Wausau East 69

WAUSAU – Keaton Edwards poured in a game-high 28 points and Bryan Halambeck added 19 points as the Evergreens picked up a Wisconsin Valley Conference win over the Lumberjacks to improve to 3-0 on the season.

Gabe Krueger paced East with 27 points and Ben Cayley tallied 16. The Lumberjacks dropped to 4-2.

GIRLS BASKETBALL

D.C. Everest 55, Wausau East 44

WAUSAU – The Evergreens opened Wisconsin Valley Conference play with a double-digit win over the Lumberjacks behind 16 points from Kiarra Hammond 16. DCE is now 3-6.

East, which fell to 3-4 and 0-2 in the WVC, was led by Maddy Krueger with 14 points.
