No one was injured after a building was destroyed by a blaze that broke out late Tuesday, officials said.

Fire crews spent hours battling the blaze, which was reported at about 10:30 p.m. at a wood shop complex at 530 Evergreen Road. There’s no word yet on what sparked the blaze, but witnesses say they heard what sounded like an explosion before the fire was called in.

When crews arrived, they were initially advised that about 10 people may have been inside the building, which was engulfed in flames. But the owner of the building advised crews that no one was inside.

Fighting the blaze was complicated by bitterly cold temperatures, and crews worked for about five hours to extinguish the fire.

Evergreen Road remained closed as of early Wednesday morning.

Eight area fire departments responded to the blaze.
