STRATFORD – The Wausau East boys basketball team closed out the year on a sour note Saturday.
Gabe Krueger finished with 15 points, but the Lumberjacks dropped a 64-51 decision to Stratford in the championship game of the Stratford Holiday Tournament.
The Tigers are ranked second in the latest Division 4 High School Basketball Coaches Association poll.
Jake Thome chipped in with 12 points for the Lumberjacks, who fell to 5-4 on the season.
Vaughn Breit led the way for Stratford with a game-high 22 points. Ben Barten, a University of Wisconsin football recruit, helped out with 17 points.
East will return to action on Jan. 3 when it visits crosstown rival Wausau West in a Wisconsin Valley Conference matchup.
