WAUSAU – Gabriel Galang set the tone in the opening match at 106 pounds with and pin and Wausau West cruised to a 69-12 Wisconsin Valley Conference dual meet win over crosstown rival Wausau East on Thursday night.

The Warriors received falls from Derek Danielson (120), Connor Calmes (126), Joseph Berens (145), Logan Ankney (152) and Noah Baumann (170).

West’s Hope Trevino won the lone match that went to a decision, doubling up Ze Yang 120-5 at 113.

Earning falls for East were Maddox Rye at 132 and Reece Ament at 285.

WESTON – Orio Boe received a forfeit at 220 pounds and the Evergreens held off the Tigers to pick up a Valley dual meet win.

Gabe Carter (170) and Mitch Danielski (195) added falls for DCE to help build just enugh of a cushion to secure a hotly contested win in the conference matchup.

GIRLS HOCKEY

Central Wisconsin 4, E.C Area 1

WESTON – The top two girls hockey teams in the state met and the second-ranked Storm made it clear who should be ranked No. 1 when the next Wisconsin Hockey Coaches Association poll comes out by taking down the top-tanked Stars.

After a scoreless opening period, Lauren Ellis put Central Wisconsin ahead to stay in the second period with a goal off an assist from Audrey Ladewig.

The Storm struck again early in the final period to increase their lead to 2-0 and added another goal for a comfortable three-goal cushion before Eau Claire Area finally got on the scoreboard with 7:45 left in regulation.

Trinity Foster would find the back of the net late in the third period to account for the final margin of victory.

BOYS HOCKEY

Wausau East/Merrill 6, Tomahawk 3

TOMAHAWK – Jared Heller and Logan Moser each scored a pair of goals and the Bluejacks snapped a nine-game winless streak with a convincing nonconference victory over the Hatchets.

Greg Glovinski and Blake Raddatz also found the back of the net for East/Merrill, while Bluejacks goalie Jake Furrer kept Tomahawk at bay with 25 saves.

BOYS BASKETBALL

Wis. Valley Lutheran 70, Bowler 54

KRONENWETTER – Ethan Mehlberg finished with a game-high 19 points and Evan Graff chimed in with a double-double of 15 points and 10 rebounds to spark Wisconsin Valley Lutheran to a win over Bowler.

The balanced attack also featured 14 points and nine rebounds from Christian Johnson. Dawson Young was the fourth player in double digits with 10 points as WVL (8-3) stayed unbeaten in the CWC-North at 5-0.

WVL raced out to a 43-26 lead at halftime.

Ashwuut Mohawk paced Bowler (2-8, 1-4 CWC North) with 18 points and Zach Fehrman chipped in with 17 points.
