The Wisconsin Crime Alert Network has issued a statewide alert for a man suspected of fatally shooting a La Crosse man in November.

Police and prosecutors have identified 27-year-old Shavonte T. Thompson as the suspect in the Nov. 2 shooting death of Javier Hall. A warrant for Thompson’s arrest has been issued.

Thompson also has a warrant for a separate shooting incident in La Crosse from earlier in 2019, police said.

He is considered armed and dangerous.

La Crosse police were dispatched at about 9:40 p.m. on Sat., Nov. 2 to the 900 block of Copeland Avenue for a report of a shooting. Upon arrival, police located Hall lying on the ground near the alley suffering from a gunshot wound. Javier was transported by Tri-State Ambulance to a local hospital, where he later died.

Through the ongoing investigation and interviews, Thompson has been identified as the suspect who fired the gun that killed Javier Hall, according to the WCAN alert.

Police are following up on reports that Thompson fled to either Rochester, Minn. or Peoria Ill. Thompson also has ties to Milwaukee and Chicago.

The alert is being sent statewide due to officer safety factors and continued efforts to locate Thompson and take him into custody, the alert states.

Thompson, who also uses the nicknames “Nug” and “Bossman,” is described as a black man who is 5’3″ tall, about 150 pounds, with black hair and brown eyes. Police say Thompson may have shaved his beard, altering his appearance.

Anyone with information on Thompson’s whereabouts is urged to call 608-789-7219 or local police. In an emergency situation, call 911.
