A winter weather advisory has been issued for portions of central Wisconsin including Wausau and Marathon County in advance of a storm that’s expected to dump up to seven inches of snow and ice on the region.
Weather officials say mainly snow is expected with a chance of freezing rain or sleet, with winds gusting as high as 35 miles per hour.
The storm is due to hit central Wisconsin at about 6 p.m. Friday and last throughout the day on Saturday, making travel extremely hazardous.
Five to 7 inches of heavy snow, along with a glaze of ice will make roadways slick, while patchy blowing snow could significantly reduce visibility on Saturday. The winter weather advisory is in effect from 6 p.m. Friday until 6 p.m. Saturday.
Drivers are urged to slow down and use caution while traveling. Remember to allow extra time for the morning and evening commute. The latest road conditions can be obtained by calling 5 1 1.
