Prep roundup: Marathon girls hand Newman first conference loss

WAUSAU– The Newman girls basketball team was held to just 11 second half points as Marathon handed the Cardinals their first conference loss of the season and picked up a 40-38 victory on Thursday.

The Cardinals took a 27-22 lead into halftime, but the Red Raiders applied pressure in the second half to come away with the win.

Leading the way for Marathon was Anna Cleven with 14 points.

Newman got 13 points from Julia Seidel.

Newman falls to 10-3 overall and 8-1 in the Marawood South.  Marathon checks in at 7-4 overall and 6-3 in conference play.

Manawa 61, Wisconsin Valley Lutheran 40

MANAWA–  WVL got 12 points from Evan Graff and 11 points from Christian Johnson, but it wasn’t enough to hold off Manawa.

Manawa was led in scoring by Mason Wiesner with 25 points.  Bracyn Hass added 10 points and Riley Krenke chipped in 10 points as well.
